Speed is the least glamorous part of a website and one of the most profitable. Every extra second of loading loses visitors, and Google measures it directly. Here is where the seconds actually go.
The usual suspects
Giant images. The #1 cause by far. A phone photo is 4–8 MB; the web version should be under 200 KB. Modern formats like WebP and proper resizing routinely cut page weight by 80%.
Overloaded themes and plugins. Each plugin adds scripts and styles to every page. Sites with 30 plugins are dragging a trailer uphill.
Cheap, overcrowded hosting. At Rs. 99/month your site shares a server with hundreds of others. Sometimes the fix is simply moving to decent hosting — often just a few hundred rupees more.
No caching. Without caching, the server rebuilds every page for every visitor. With it, most visitors get an instant pre-built copy.
Render-blocking scripts. Chat widgets, sliders, trackers and fonts loading before your content does.
How to check yourself
Run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights on the mobile tab — that is the score Google cares about. Under 50 means you are losing customers to the loading spinner.
What a proper fix looks like
Compress and convert images, remove dead plugins, enable caching and GZIP, defer non-critical scripts, upgrade hosting if needed. On most sites I audit, these steps together take load time from 6–8 seconds to under 2. That difference shows up in enquiries within weeks.
